Jano is a pop French visual artist. In late 2000, visited Rio de Janeiro. Jano immersed himself completely in the carioca (how Rio de Janeiro residents are known) life style, going to places that will never be showed on post cards, meeting people from all layers of society, observing, experimenting, interacting. The result of this incursion is a portfolio that became a reference for the contemporary carioca lifestyle, the unique way that Rioıs residents go about their lives amid the contrasts of a city at the same time beautiful and poor, joyful and violent.

Itıs a pop and funny visual anthropologic treaty that impresses the viewer with the richness and precision of the details.

The documentary crew followed Janoıs work during the 50 days of his immersion in Rio de Janeiro and during the finalization, at the artistıs studio in Paris. ³Rio de Jano" shows Rio de Janeiro from a surprising and inspired point of view, result of Janoıs rare and sharp skills as an observer.

DIRECTORS

RIO DE JANO marks the feature film directing debut of Anna Azevedo, Eduardo Souza Lima and Renata Baldi. Anna is a screenwriter. She has written and directed the short cut ³Batuque na Cozinha", Riofilme Scennplay Prix; Eduardo is a journalist specializing in movies and Renata is a film editor.

Direction of Photography is at the hands of Mario Carneiro, one of Brazilıs most important cinematographers. Mario in 1959 co-directed and shot Arraial do Cabo, the groundbreaking documentary that started the Brazilian "cinema novo", the movement that made Brazilian cinema know to the world.
His choice as cinematographer was a perfect fit. A master of his art, Mario is also fluent in French. Born in Paris, he is also a renowned architect and painter.
